Nitzanim Classes for children of all school ages

Cheder Nitzanim started in October 2007 and currently has around 12 children aged about 4 to 13. We meet every Sunday during term time from 10am to 12 noon, and sessions are structured but relatively informal. We cater for families from a variety of backgrounds. There is no upper or lower age limit, and parents (or grandparents!) are encouraged to stay for all or part of the sessions. No prior knowledge is assumed, and children are welcome to start at any time during the term or year.
The first half of each session is Hebrew work using the Z'man Likro workbooks to enable each child to work at his or her own pace. Parents, teachers and older students are available to help, and the children are sometimes paired up according to Hebrew level so they can work together.
The second half of each session is an activity based on a rough theme and structure decided at the beginning of each term. This is led by parents on a rota basis. Parents can choose to share sessions, and are given as much or little support as they want. Activities to date have included song-writing, drama, puppets, storytelling, discussions, cooking, games and crafts. We celebrate the festivals with the rest of the community, and at least once every year the children plan and lead their own service.
If you would like more information, or to arrange to come and try us for a session or two, please contact Emma on 07929 565076 or at
